Stitching with Aaron Sanders Head Vol. 1 - Drawstring Pouch
Stitching with Aaron Sanders Head Vol. 1 - Drawstring Pouch
Join me for Volume 1 of Stitching with Aaron Sanders Head! This 9-page PDF contains all of detailed steps and hand drawn illustrations you’ll need to learn the techniques behind my Tatter stitch pattern, and to incorporate it into a fully hand-stitched drawstring bag! Just print at home, or save resources and view digitally! This project is perfect for beginners (really!), but I don’t cover some basics like threading a needle and tying a knot. See the images for examples of work made by students using this tutorial.
The materials needed to make a pouch are as follows:
—at least two squares of fabric, measuring approximately 6.5 x 6.5 in.
—one or two colors of thread: Sashiko thread or perle cotton is what I use, but embroidery floss or any sort of thread you’re happy with will work. This will be used for stitching and for pouch construction.
—snips
—ruler - for drawing grids. transparent quilting ruler is easiest but any straight edge can work
—needle - crewel needles are my favorite. something with a large but narrow eye
—marking tool - iron away pens are my favorite, but chalk pencils or any removable marking tool works
—drawstring - you’ll need two pieces that are at least 3 times the width of your squares. For instance, if i’m using 6.5 x 6.5 in. fabric, my strips need to be at least 19.5 in. I’m using scrap fabric that i’ve ripped into strips, but any ribbon, drawstring or cording would work as well
